10 Ways to Celebrate Mom This Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and many people are pondering how best to show mom how much they care this year. Check out these ideas below.

Brunch or Dinner. If you’re planning to make dinner reservations for Mother’s Day, now would be a good time to do so. Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants. Alternatively, consider skipping the crowds and reservations, and make a meal for mom instead. Invite mom over for brunch or dinner in her honor.

Flowers. Giving flowers has become a staple of Mother’s Day. Popular options are roses, lilies, carnations, daffodils, and tulips. Make your gift of flowers even more meaningful by purchasing from a local florist or vendor. Click here to view flower vendors right here on Delmarva.

Homemade Card. You could spend upwards of $5 on a pre-written greeting card, or you could make mom a homemade card filled with words of love and appreciation. Can you guess which one will mean more to your mom? Get creative with cardstock, stickers, and accents to make the card a one of a kind piece.

Bake. Bake mom her favorite dessert, or even a Mother’s Day cake. If you have siblings or children of your own, make baking and decorating a team effort. Your mother will be sure to appreciate the time and effort put into creating a special dessert.

Housework. Often it’s actions that speak to the heart more than any other gift. Dedicate time out of your busy schedule to help your mom around the house. Whether the house needs a good cleaning, power washing, or even a few coats of paint, mom will be sure to appreciate the help.

Gardening. Does your mother have a passion for gardening? Put on your gloves and get out in the garden this Mother’s Day. Help her with the tougher jobs such as weeding and planting. Not only will you be helping out a great deal, but you will also be taking an interest in something your mother cares about.

Take a Class. Make a date to take a class on something you’d both enjoy. Whether it be painting, cooking, yoga, or even a language course. The subject isn’t as important as the fact that you will be spending quality time with your mother.

Movies. If your mom loves movies, take her out to the theater. Or, have a stay at home movie marathon with all of mom’s favorite films. Add in some of mom’s favorite candies and some homemade popcorn, and you’ve got yourself the perfect Mother’s Day for cinema loving moms.

Picnic. If the weather permits, take mom out for a picnic. Bring along fresh fruits, muffins, cookies, and whatever else she might enjoy. With the flowers in bloom and birds chirping, it’s the perfect time of year for a picnic.

Spa Basket. Put together a basket filled with everything mom needs for the ultimate at-home spa day. Be sure to include lotions, soap, masks, loofah, candles, washcloths, and bath salts or bubble bath. If mom has any favorite teas, coffee, or sweets, put those in there, too.

However, you choose to celebrate mom this year, remember that the greatest gift you can give her is your time and attention. Make sure she knows how much you love her and appreciate everything she has done for you. Happy Mother’s Day!
