How to Stay Motivated During Cold Days

Are you having a hard time staying motivated now that winter is upon us? Don’t worry, it’s not just you. Shorter days and cold bitter temperatures are enough to make anyone want to hibernate for the season. But there are ways to combat the winter fatigue. Check out these 5 tips to increase your motivation and help keep your momentum going all the way through spring.

Drink something warm. This one may seem like a no-brainer, but a steaming cup of your favorite beverage is a great motivator when your energy is low. Hot beverages warm you up quickly, and can be just the thing to keep you moving. Stock up on your favorite coffee or tea at the office so you always have a great selection to choose from.

Get some sun. The earth has tilted on its axis and the sun is at its furthest point of the year. That means shorter days, and limited energy and drive for many. The solution? Get as much natural light as you can. Sunny days may be few and far between, but take advantage of them when they do occur. Bundle up and stand under the sun. The sun’s rays will do you a world of good and help boost your energy levels. Maybe try rearranging your office so that you are close enough to a window to get more sunlight.

Get enough sleep. Be sure you’re getting enough sleep, and stick to a consistent sleeping schedule. Not getting enough sleep takes a toll on your body, and your health. And when you’re not at your best, you lower the productivity of your entire office. So do everyone a favor, and get plenty of sleep. It varies between age groups and personal requirements, but most adults should get an average of 8 hours of sleep each night.

Exercise. The last thing you might want to do when you’re cold is get up and start moving. However, exercise is a wonderfully healthy way to stay warm. Sticking to a regular exercise regimen in the winter will also help you sleep better, leading to less fatigue during the day. It might be tempting to work through your lunch when you’re busy, but take some time to focus on your fitness. If you work in a large building or have your own gym inside, then you don’t even have to venture out in the cold to get moving.

Set Goals. What are your goals for this year? Do you want to find new leads, expand your email list, focus on your marketing? Then make those goals happen every day. Do a few small tasks every day that work toward your goals. Big change doesn’t happen overnight, it stems from every moment you work toward fulfilling your dreams. When the days are cold and dreary, hold onto your goals and look to the future.
